Kyiv
Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, is situated on both banks of the river Dnipro. Nowadays Kyiv is a large political, industrial, scientific and cultural centre. Its population is about 3 million. The city is green and beautiful, it is a garden city. The streets of it are lined up with chestnut trees which are very beautiful in spring. The main street of Kyiv is Khreshchatyk. You should start your sightseeing there. There are many places of interest Kyiv. As it is one of the oldest cities in Europe, there are many ancient churches, museums, monuments, libraries, theatres, parks, beautiful streets and squares in it. Kyiv is famous for its Kyivo-Pecherska Lavra.
Tourists always go to have a look at the monument to Bohdan Khmelnytsky. Other places of interest in Kyiv are the State Historical Museum of Ukraine, and the Golden Gates. The Andriivska Church, the monuments to Prince Volodymyr and Taras Shevchenko are worth seeing. Kyiv Shevchenko Opera and Ballet House, Kyiv Ivan Franko Drama Theatre are well-known all over the country.
Kyiv is also one of the largest scientific centres. More than 10 000 students study at Kyiv Shevchenko National University. There are over 20 higher educational establishments in Kyiv. Kyiv is also the centre of political life in Ukraine. All major political events take place here. You can see the places of work of our president and parliament.
